Eddie Pepperell boosted his hopes of playing in next week’s Open Championship with a superb second-round 67 in the Scottish Open at Castle Stewart.
The Abingdon professional stands in joint second place on seven-under-par 137, just a stroke behind leader – and playing partner – Alex Noren, from Sweden.
The leading four players, who finish in the top 12 and ties and who are not already exempt, will earn a place in the field at Royal Troon.
Pepperell, who led last year’s Open at St Andrews midway through the first round, shot an eagle at the 12th - his fourth hole – and four birdies in his second round.
