England's women have a last chance to press their claims for a place in the World Cup squad when they take on Sweden at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford tonight (7.45).

The home side, who will be without the injured duo of skipper Faye White and midfielder Fara Williams, start their Group B campaign against Mexico in Wolfsburg on Monday, June 27.

White has a knee injury and Casey Stoney takes on the armband.

Coach Hope Powell, whose side beat USA 2-1 in their last game, said: “The level of competition is exactly right; Sweden are a world-class team.

“They are always there or thereabouts in the major tournaments. The last time we played them was in the European Championship and we always have tough games against them.

“This will undoubtedly be another tough game and it will give us the opportunity to test ourselves against a strong European side just before the World Cup.”
