OXFORD United were knocked out of the SSE Women’s FA Cup on a penalty shoot-out at Cardiff City.
The visitors, who lost Stephanie Williams to an injury in the ninth minute, came closest to breaking the stalemate in the fourth round tie.
Hannah Short twice saw headers hit the woodwork – firstly 11 minutes into the second half and then late on in extra-time.
But with no breakthrough, it went to penalties.
The first eight were all converted, but City could not capitalise on Estelle Randall’s save, as Kelly Isaac dragged wide.
The visitors did not waste a second chance in sudden death, though, Emily Poole converting after United struck the woodwork for a third time.
