OXFORD United were stung in the 90th minute by former striker Destiney Toussaint as they finished 2017 with a 2-1 defeat at London Bees in Women’s Super League 2.

Andy Cook’s side looked to be heading for a point after Kayleigh Hines cancelled out Paula Howells’s opener at a wintry Hive.

But Toussaint, who left the U’s in 2016, kept her head in the final seconds to bag a late winner.

It was a frustrating finish to the year for United, whose next game is not until January 8.

Goalkeeper Demi Lambourne said: “We’re really disappointed.

“We wanted to get a win to round off 2017 but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s three points lost.

“We created loads of chances but the end product just wasn’t there, and their goalkeeper made some great saves as well.

“I don’t think the draw would have been fair, we’d have liked to have get the win, and it’s bad when you lose like that.”

The hosts were ahead in the fourth minute when Howells scored with a 25-yard free-kick which found the top corner.

But midway through the half, the visitors forced their way back into it in farcical fashion.

Hines struck a low shot which skidded through Nicola Hobbs’s hands and trickled over the line.

Chloe Chivers thought she had put United in front before half-time, but the assistant referee indicated the ball had gone out.

The Bees got on top in the second half as substitute Lucy Loomes threatened down the right.

Toussaint set up Howells for a great chance on 75 minutes, but Lambourne was quickly off her line to block.

Hobbs made amends for her earlier error with a terrific diving save two minutes from time, denying Hines and then turning Corinne Yorston’s shot round the post.

It proved crucial, as Toussaint struck the decisive blow in stoppage-time.
