VALE of White Horse became the first winners of the Williams Cup after a 2-1 victory over Aldershot & Farnborough in the final at Milton United.
They were forced to come from behind, however, as their rivals – national semi-finalists 12 months ago – went ahead inside a minute.
Ten minutes later, Fabian Crane saw a shot saved, only for the loose ball to fall to Alex Harrison, whose shot hit the arm of a defender. Sam Bailey levelled from the resulting penalty.
Tommy Boyd had a clear chance to put Vale ahead from close range, but he hesitated and his shot was blocked.
Vale keeper Thomas Bushnell bravely blocked a dangerous attack from the visitors before Vale scored the winner midway through the second half.
Crane latched onto a loose ball in the area, cut inside and scored from a narrow angle to give Vale a deserved victory.
l WALLINGFORD beat Larkmead, Abingdon 6-0 to lift the Under 16 Vale Schools Cup.
James Stewart (2), Zac Jones, Harvey Ford, Matthew Ritz and Mike Wilson scored.
