OXFORD United are rooted to the bottom of the FA Women’s Super League 2 table after losing 2-1 to Watford in their basement battle at Abingdon United on Sunday.

With only one game left, manager Andy Cook’s side, who have yet to win a game, are sure to finish bottom.

A brace from Charlotte Kerr was enough to give Watford victory.

Oxford opened the scoring against the run of play in the seventh minute, when Ellie Noble headed in Lauren Allison’s hooked cross.

But the visitors drew level in the 19th minute through Kerr, who volleyed in off the bar after Rinsola Babajida headed a floated free-kick across goal.

Allison had a chance to put Oxford back in front just after half-time, but fired over when through one-on-one with Watford goalkeeper Josephine Fletcher.

Watford piled on the pressure and Riva Casley pulled off a last-ditch tackle to deny Leah Cudone when well-placed in the 74th minute.

Two minutes later, U’s keeper Demi Lambourne saved well to deny Babajida.

The pressure eventually told, and Babajida and Kerr combined again to give Watford the lead. Kerr back-heeling Babajida’s low left-wing cross into the goal.

Emily Donovan had a late chance to rescue a point for Oxford moments from time, but her curling effort from 25 yards was saved.

After the game Noble said: “As a team we’re quite disappointed with the result and our performance today.

“We worked really hard for each other and it didn’t all come together.

“It’s really nice to score, especially at home with my family watching, it’s a great feeling.”
