LAUREN Haynes feels there are plenty of reasons for optimism at Oxford United after their 0-0 draw at home to Aston Villa in the FA Women’s Super League 2 Spring Series.
Although the U’s are still awaiting their first victory, captain Haynes was pleased with an improved display.
She said: “I think we created so many chances and it was unfortunate we didn’t put any of them away, but chances don’t win games, goals do.
“So, it is frustrating but it is coming and we have just got to be patient.”
United created the better chances, with top-scorer Ini Umotong in the thick of the action, but she was unable to add to her two goals so far this season.
After the break, the Nigerian international went closest to breaking the deadlock, forcing a fine save from Villa keeper Claire Skinner.
Umotong was was further frustrated when she saw her powerful header cannon back off the bar.
Oxford Utd: Lambourne, Frampton, Haynes, Casley, Umotong, Gane, Pickett (Noble 82), Franklin-Fraiture (Baker 90), Taome, Oliver, Donovan. Subs not used: Thomas, Deeley.
