TWO injury-time goals sent Oxford United to a heartbreaking 3-1 defeat away to London Bees in the FA Women’s Super League 2 on Sunday.

Ini Umotong’s goal in the final ten minutes looked like it had secured Oxford a draw at the Hive after Ashleigh Goddard’s header just before the break.

But Diane Cooper grabbed a second Bees’ goal on 90 minutes and Jo Wilson rounded off the victory.

The Bees should have scored inside ten minutes as confusion in the Oxford defence allowed Nicola Watts to shoot from six yards, but she hit a post.

However, they did take the lead just before the interval when a quick free-kick on the right allowed Paula Howells to cross and Bees’ skipper Goddard nodded in from a yard out.

It looked like the game would end 1-0 until Lauren Allison cleverly squared to Umotong, who chipped the ball over Imogen Riches for her ninth goal in eleven matches.

But a Bees free-kick was not cleared by the Oxford defence in the 90th minute and the ball fell to Cooper to smash into the roof of the net from eight yards.

The hosts still had time for a third when Wilson was played through on goal and the striker had the composure to find the bottom corner for her eighth goal of the season.

Oxford’s Lauren Haynes said: “We didn’t perform in the first half at all like we can.

“In the second half, we managed to get back in the game. But to concede two goals in stoppage time is hugely frustrating for everyone.”
