LES Taylor was disappointed Oxford United Women were unable to finish Millwall Lionesses off in a 2-2 draw in FA Women’s Super League 2.

Leading 2-0 at half-time in the clash at Abingdon United, Oxford had the chance to kill off their opponents, who were forced to field defender Naomi Cole in goal due to an injury to Sarah Quantrill.

But they were unable to beat the makeshift keeper and instead conceded twice to surrender the advantage, much to the dismay of the U’s boss.

“I’ve seen it so many times when that happens and you don’t really test them,” said Taylor.

“I was really pleased with the first-half performance, but the second half was a bit iffy.”

It took Helen King just three minutes to open the scoring for Oxford, striking home into the bottom corner of the net.

  • Helen King lets fly with a left-footed shot for Oxford United Women’s opener after just three minutes in the 2-2 draw against Millwall Lionesses

Ella Franklin-Fraiture doubled the lead in phenomenal style shortly before the half-hour mark.

She collected the ball 20 yards from goal, before looping a stunning shot over the head of Quantrill and into the net via the underside of the bar.

The Millwall keeper was substituted at half-time with a head injury sustained in a collision with Kayleigh Hines shortly before the break, but her makeshift replacement was largely untroubled.

Instead the visitors pulled a goal back in the 64th minute, when Grace Fisk headed home an Ashlee Hincks free-kick.

And they were level nine minutes from time when substitute Rinsola Babajide raced onto Cole’s long clearance before blasting home.
