Oxfordshire Under 14s have one hand on the Reed Trophy in the South West Counties competition following a 1-0 win over Hampshire at Milton United.
Oxon are now sitting pretty at the top of the table, with Dorset needing to win their remaining two games against Berkshire and Hampshire and improve their goal difference by seven to snatch the silverware.
Following an even first half, Oxfordshire dominated the second period with Matty Fitzgerald and Joe Fleming working tirelessly in midfield, and Chris Mortimore a constant threat in attack.
The only goal came ten minutes after half-time, when Mortimore provided the opening for Scott Isherwood, whose shot deflected off a defender’s leg over the goalkeeper’s head into the far top corner of the net.

Moin Gogar, who was outstanding at the heart of defence with Luke Elliott, twice went close with headers from corners, with one blocked on the line and the other going inches over the bar as Oxon piled on the pressure.
