Oxfordshire Schools' Under 16s were crowned champions in the South West Counties competition following a 1-1 draw with Somerset at Milton United.

Oxon, who have also reached the ESFA Inter County Trophy final, took the lead midway through the first half when Bradley Evans snapped up a rebound after Nathan Kimber’s cross ricocheted off the near post.

Somerset equalised five minutes from time when Oxon failed to clear a corner and a scramble ended with Dan Laminam scored.

The draw was good enough for Oxon to take the trophy, having beaten Berkshire 3-1 and Hampshire 4-1.

A LATE goal condemned Oxfordshire Under 14s to a 1-0 defeat against Cornwall in the South West Counties competition in Bodmin.

VALE of White Horse Under 13s’ depleted squad bowed out of the Oxford United Cup with a 2-0 defeat at Gosport & Fareham in the semi-final.

With nine players ruled out, Vale held out in the first half.

But Gosport went ahead with a breakaway goal and also scored in the last minute.

MATTHEW Arnold (Oxford) won the Vale of White Horse Under 14s six-a-side tournament at King Alfred’s Academy, Wantage.

They beat John Mason 2-0 in the final, with goals from Will Gordon-Roach and Joseph Drinkwater.
