Oxford United were dumped out of the FA Women’s Cup with a 3-0 defeat by Premier League Northern Division leaders Coventry City in the third round at Abingdon United, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

United fell behind with just 30 seconds played when former Oxford triallist Amber Hughes crossed for Destiney Toussaint to poke home.

Toussaint doubled the deficit in the 15th minute, sliding in to meet Helen Dermody’s cross after she had got the wrong side of the United defence.

Toussaint was then dismissed for kicking out at Oxford captain Sahara Osborne-Ricketts, handing United a numerical advantage for 70 minutes.

But despite creating a host of chances they were unable to capitalise.

Osborne-Ricketts was desperately unlucky to see her ambitious 30-yard strike tipped over by goalkeeper Susan Wood, while Laura Nichol struck a post when a Kayleigh Hines shot rebounded out to her.

With the U’s urgently pushing forward in search of a route back into the match they found themselves undone on the counter attack, as Dermody latched onto a 73rd-minute long ball before firing home.
