WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Hines says derby win could kick-start season

7:00am Saturday 24th May 2014

Oxford United women’s midfielder Kayleigh Hines wants to claim bragging rights as the U’s host Reading at Northcourt Road in the FA Women’s Super League 2 tomorrow (2pm).

Hines, who was at Reading before joining United in January, has started every game for Oxford and feels a derby win would kick-start her new side’s faltering league campaign.

She said: “If we can get those points on the board and do it in such a local derby it’s going to do us the world of good.

“I don’t think anyone’s lacked motivation to play this season, but it's always good when it’s a local derby and such a competitive fixture.

“I don’t think Oxford have had the chance to play Reading competitively at this level before, so it’s a big one.”

The U's, who are yet to win this season, face a month-long lay-off after this weekend due to international fixtures and defender Rosie Lane said that they were determined not to go into the break pointless.

“Obviously we’ve got to be up for it because we want to get points on the board to take into the break,” she said.

“It’s good for us obviously because we’re at home and we’ve dominated three of our four league games, so we’ve just got to take that into the game.”

Winger Katie Stanley came through a full 90 minutes on Wednesday unscathed as United’s development squad beat Reading 1-0, but Oxford will still be without the injured duo of Louise Fellows and Ella Franklin-Fraiture.

Oxford Utd: from Cox, Mobbs, Hines, Osborne-Ricketts, Chivers, Allison, Pickett, Pinker, Low, King, Nutman, Connor-Iommi, Lane, Lambourne, Lowder, Nichol, Stanley.
