Hook Norton lifted the Oxfordshire Joe Roughton Under 18 Youth Cup for the first time with a dramatic 5-4 penalty shoot-out success against Oxford City in the final at Thame United.

The clash had finished 2-2 after extra time, with Hook Norton having a two-goal lead pulled back by a battling City side.

With no further scoring in extra time, the match went to penalties.

Hook Norton keeper Tommy Owen and his opposite number, Michael Brimah, saved a spot-kick apiece as the first five penalties from each side ended 4-4.

It then went to sudden death, and Hook Norton scored, before Owen saved Abraham Adegoke’s spot-kick to spark Hooky’s celebrations.

Elliott Williams, Mitchell Klynes, Callum Bryant, Sam Grimsley and captain Bobby Stewart were Hook Norton’s successful penalty takers. Earlier, City had the best chances in the first half, but were unable to make them count.

And great work from Matty Barker on the left set up Dan Bartlett to give Hook Norton the lead six minutes into the second half.

Williams’s long punt upfield was then chased down by Grimsley, who put Brimah under pressure before rolling the ball into the net.

But City stormed back with Ishmael Daley’s far-post header reducing the deficit, before Amer Awadh beat two players to slot home the equaliser.

Both sides had chances to win the game, before Hooky triumphed.
