Vale of White Horse Under 14s face an anxious wait to see if they’ll be crowned Vale Cup champions following a agonising 2-1 defeat by Southampton at Milton United.

Needing a draw to lift the cup, which is played for on a league basis, Vale led 1-0 going into the dying minutes thanks to Tom Morris’s 25-yard free-kick midway through the second half.

But Southampton equalised in the last minute with a close-range header from an inswinging corner, and then scored an identical goal in the third minute of time added on.

Now Vale must hope Southampton don’t win their last game at Cheltenham as a victory would put them level on points, and the title would then be decided on goal difference.

BOTLEY Primary School reached the last four in the ESFA Danone Nations Under 12 7-a-side Cup south west regional finals before bowing out.

The Oxfordshire champions finished runners-up in Group 1 at Stroud College to qualify for the semi-finals where they lost 1-0 to Hampshire after conceding a last-minute penalty.

In their group games, Botley beat Cornwall 1-0 with Matty Slevin on target, before defeating Dorset 2-1, with goals from Slevin and Kamil Adediran.

They then drew 0-0 with Gloucestershire, but lost 2-0 to Wiltshire.
