Two local sides have reached the regional finals of a national competition.

Kidlington Youth under 14s and Crowmarsh under 12s triumphed in local heats of the Futsal Frenzy.

Futsal is the growing, latest craze in indoor football and is the officially recognised form of five-a-side football.

Fifteen teams competed at the event at the Oxford City Futsal Arena, with many youngsters playing the game for the first time.

It differs from other forms of indoor football by use of a smaller, heavier ball.

The festival generated an exciting atmosphere, with Kidlington and Crowmarsh Youth narrowly proving victorious.

The duo will now play in the South East Regional festival against other County FA winners at Surrey Sports Park at a date to be announced.

Steve Forse, coach of the narrowly defeated Kidlington under 12s, said: “The girls really enjoyed it and were chomping at the bit to play in every match they could.

“Considering many of them hadn’t played this game before, the girls all got to grips with the rules pretty quickly and put in a tremendous effort.”
