Oxfordshire's boys bowed out of the ESFA Under 16 Inter County Trophy with a 2-1 defeat by West Midlands in the second round at Ardley United.

Oxon goalkeeper Eddie Cav-iezel-Cox made a brave save to deny Ethan Jones when he raced clean through on goal, before Rav Shamsi then rattled the West Midlands crossbar from 30 yards.

But the visitors took the lead after 23 minutes when Oliver Jordan’s 25-yard drive flew in off the underside of the bar.

Oxon equalised ten minutes into the second half when Jordi Mulvaney fired home a penalty after Joel Thompson had been brought down.

But two minutes later, Joe Bevan scored from close range to end Oxon’s hopes.

KIERA Isaac grabbed the winner as Oxfordshire’s girls completed their ESFA Under 16 Inter County group games with a 4-3 victory over Berkshire at Milton United.

It was 3-3 at half-time, but Isaac settled the tie with 15 minutes left when she scored at the second attempt after her first effort was saved.

Oxon had the perfect start when a Berkshire defender turned the ball into her own net in the first minute.

May Hamblin equalised for Berkshire midway through the half, and the visitors took the lead through a great Dieanna Cane free-kick.

Jess Painter levelled with a penalty three minutes later, only for Cane to restore Berkshire’s advantage.

Charlie Estcourt equalised just before the interval with a brilliant shot from 30 yards.

Oxon now await the results of other games to hear whether they have qualified for the knockout stage.

OXFORDSHIRE’S Scott Gee has missed out on a place in the final trials for the England Under 18s squad.

VALE of White Horse Under 14s staged a storming finish to beat Mid Oxon 5-1 in the Vale Cup at Chipping Norton.

Nathan Baker made it 3-0, before Finlay Heritage pulled a goal back.

Tom Morris and Spruyt, with his second, completed a flattering scoreline for Vale.
