FOOTBALL: Bond brace opens up title chase

The Division 1 title race in the Critchleys UTV League was blown wide open as league leaders Freeland Yeoman fell to their first defeat of the season at home to second-placed Iffley Harriers, writes DARYL RIDGLEY.
Harriers won 3-1 thanks to a brace from Dan Bond and a Dan Pear strike, while Danny Taylor pulled one back for Freeland.
Northway were impressive 4-1 winners at home to Railway Wheatley, leap-frogging the visitors into third place with goals from Michael Yearwood, Dennis Moore, Liam Hatt and Martino Ventriglez.
White Horse Abingdon completed a league and cup double over local rivals Abingdon Exiles in Division 2, with goals from Michael Allen Bloomfield and Carl Archer giving the home side a comfortable 2-0 win. Forest Hill picked up their fifth win in six games in style, beating high-flying Black Swan 5-2.
Josh Gonzalez, Steve West, Craig Watts, Matt Wigley and Jamie Hitchcock were all on target for the home side, while Craig Davis and Jefferson Harriott netted Black Swan’s consolation efforts.
Village Inn went down 4-3 at home to Checkendon Exiles in a close encounter, despite a brace from Colin Royal and a goal from Michael Hinkin.
The visitors won it thanks to a double effort from Dave Woodley and a goal apiece from Charlie Lee and Matthew Phillips.
Andrew Potter scored a treble to help North Oxford Conservative Club to a 6-3 win over Woodstock Wanderers.
Dave Villiers, Lewis Charlott and Carl Heaven each scored for the hosts but it wasn’t enough as Mark James, Ricky Wells and Joey Beauchamp also netted for Conservative Club.
Goalkeeper Stuart Barlow put in a heroic performance as Abba Athletic comprehensively beat struggling Great Western Park 5-0 in Division 3.
At 1-0 Barlow saved a penalty to preserve the home side’s lead, and after switching to centre-forward in the last 30 minutes, was able to find the net himself.
Other scorers for Abba were Ricky Falloon-Reid, Nigel Taylor, Mark Nicholl and Rob Appleton.
Milton Midgets were 3-0 winners over Long Wittenham, with goals from James Carlini and Paddy Regan sandwiching a Paul Baccino penalty.
