Forest Hill lifted the Alan Alder Memorial Trophy in just their second season in the Critchleys Upper Thames Valley League with a surprise 2-0 win over Rutherford Lab in the final at Abingdon Town, writes TIM SIRET.

The underdogs outplayed their Division 1 opponents, who just couldn’t get going. Division 2 side Forest Hill scored two first-half goals, before holding on with a resolute defensive display.

They opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Steve West’s tame shot from the edge of the box skidded under keeper Ian Williamson.

Ten minutes later, Matt Wigley’s fine pass set up Josh Gonzales.

His effort was well saved by Williamson, but Gonzales was the quickest to react and he smashed the rebound home to double Forest Hill’s advantage.

The second half was a fairly subdued affair with both midfields dominating without creating too many chances.

Ronnie Brumfitt came closest to pulling a goal back for Rutherford, but it wasn’t to be and Forest Hill were left to celebrate their first trophy.

RYAN Curtin fired another five-timer as Kidlington Royals completed a stellar season by thrashing Dorchester United 13-1 to finish runners-up in the Premier League.

Curtin also scored five times the previous week as Kidlington sealed a treble with a 6-0 win over Sutton Wanderers to add the Devenney Cup to their Oxfordshire FA Sam Waters Sunday Cup and Hedley Toms/Michael Brown Trophy triumphs.

Denel Thomas hit a hat-trick for the hosts, Mark Bradwell bagged a brace and Toby Webster, Ben Willoughby and Anaclet Odhiambo completed the rout.

Colin Royall provided Dorchester’s lone reply. Jimmy Deabill was another five-goal marksman as leaders Red Lion Islip ended their Division 1 programme with an 18-0 demolition of nine-man Standlake Garage.

Alex Gardner (3), Colin Simpson (2), Mark White (2), Michael Trafford (2), Chris Thorne, Adam Wells, Ryan Cork and John Webb joined in the goal fest for the hosts.

Red Lion must now hope that Zubry Oxford slip up in one of their two remaining games if they are to claim the title.

Zubry kept their challenge on track with a 5-0 road win at Didcot Casuals.

The goals were shared between Seb Ciekielski, Piotr Szafraniec, Andrzej Krason, Tomasz Serednicki and Waldek Kruk.

Jonny James hit a hat-trick as The Tree Grove celebrated their Division 2 title triumph with a 5-2 home win over Iffley Harriers.

Adam Bruce and Tom Bennett were also on target, with a James Rose own goal and Dan Pair making up Iffley’s tally.

Tom Gerken bagged a brace in Freeland Yeoman’s 3-1 win at Checkendon Exiles. Simon Calley was Freeland’s other scorer.

Woodstock Wanderers celebrated being crowned Division 3 champions with a 4-1 home win over Chatsworth Buccaneers, who end the camapign without a win.

A Ryan Thorne double and goals from Sean Dyer and Ryan Doran gave Woodstock manager Ben Fouracre his first title triumph at the tender age of 20.

Abba Athletic completed the double over Watlington Wanderers with a 2-0 home win.

Ollie Bagnall and Nigel Taylor were on song for Abba.
