Kidlington Royals roared back to lift the Oxfordshire FA Sam Waters Sunday Cup for the first time with a 3-2 win over Oxford Sports & Social Club in a thrilling final at Oxford City.

Anaclet Odhiambo was Kidlington’s hero, slotting home the winner on 78 minutes after being set up by some neat interplay involving Kieron Davis and Denel Thomas.

Oxford were unbeaten in all competitions going into the tie, but it was their Critchleys Upper Thames Valley League rivals who dominated early on.

Ryan Curtin gave last year’s runners-up the lead in the eighth minute when he latched on to a crossfield ball to fire home from ten yards.

Royals continued to pile on the pressure, with Odhiambo and Mark Janes missing chances.

But Oxford levelled shortly before half-time when they broke away and Piers McGylnn slotted home from a pinpoint cross.

And Oxford were quickly out of the blocks after the break, with John McMahon finishing superbly from close range in the 48th minute to give them the lead.

But Kidlington roared back and had two efforts cleared off the line, before the introduction of Davis and Thomas turned the game in Royals’ favour.

Curtin bagged a second with a volley on 66 minutes, before Odhiambo grabbed the winner to spark Kidlington’s celebrations.
