Crowmarsh players celebrate winning the North Berks League Division 1 title
NORTH BERKS LEAGUE
LIAM Currell scored the goal that secured a first North Berks League Div-ision 1 title in Crowmarsh Gifford’s short seven-year history, writes Phil Annets.
A 2-2 draw away to Faringdon Town gave Crow-marsh the point they needed to take the crown.
Faringdon twice took the lead through Derren Harr-ington and Gary Sutton, but Currell and an Andy Allum penalty gave Crowmarsh the point they needed.
Wootton & Dry Sandford warmed up for their North Berks Cup final appearance next week with a 7-1 victory at Kintbury Rangers.
Ben Taylor struck twice for Wootton alongside efforts from Dave Humphreys, George Casserley, Josh Nicholls, Tommy Cooke and Johnny Weir. Scott Bowers scored for Kintbury.
Benson AFC drew with Harwell Inter-national in an eight-goal thriller.
Nick Skiller with two, Damian Rigozzi and George Faulkner scored for Benson, but John Robinson, Mike Yardley, Tom McGregor and Wayne Robins matched them.
Strikes from Paul Broadis and Tom Bennett gave Ardington & Lockinge a 2-0 home victory over Benson Lions in the only game played in Division 2.
Blewbury and Shriven-ham A served up a double figure goal-fest as the home side ran out 6-4 winners.
Marcus Herbert and Adam Spurrett bagged a brace apiece, alongside goals from Tom Smith and Nathan Jaggard for Blewbury.
Josh Fowler with two, Steve Leighfield and Mark Loveridge were all on the scoresheet for Shrivenham.
Hagbourne United had a comfortable 4-0 home win over basement boys Drayton Res with Brodie Edmunds, Brian Kerry, Luke Ambler and Mark Nicholls all helping themselves to a goal each.
Harwell International Res are now just one game away from a perfect 20 league victories after a 3-1 win at Westminster.
Stuart Smith struck twice and Jake Thompson scored the other in the win, while Dean Sillence replied for Westminster.
