IT was a bittersweet day for Jemal Thomas as Thame Town beat Deddington Town 4-0 in the final at Kidlington FC.
Thomas came off the bench to score Thame’s final goal, but then broke and dislocated his left ankle after falling awkwardly late on.
The referee blew his final whistle early and there were muted celebrations as players attended Thomas.
Before the paramedics took him to hospital, Thame collected Thomas’s medal and moved to the other end of the pitch for a photo with their stricken teammate.
Manager Kev Poole said: “He had an operation on Monday and we are waiting to find out the results.”
Thame, who won the trophy for the first time, took the lead on 11 minutes when Paul Alleyne made the byeline and crossed for Ray Long to score.
Alleyne’s superb pass created No 2 for Lance Shaw on 36 minutes.
Shaw latched on to Matt Pay’s long goal kick to make it 3-0 on the hour.
Thomas pounced on a defensive error with 12 minutes to go before his injury marred a great day for Thame.
Thame lead the Aylesbury District League Premier Division by eight points and hope to secure promotion to Division 1 East of the UHLSport Hellenic League.
Deddington finished second in Division 1 of the Banbury District & Lord Jersey FA.
