WALLINGFORD Town moved up to second in Division 1 with a 1-0 home win over East Hendred, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

Tom Baptie scored the only goal shortly after the hour mark to move Town to within six points of top spot.

Saxton Rovers recovered from last week’s 7-1 humbling at the hands of leaders Berinsfield with a fine 4-0 victory at home to Long Wittenham Athletic.

Louis Bloomfield, Riley Stone, Tom Stanley and Daniel Cox scored the goals which moved Rovers off the bottom of the table.

A lone strike from Jamie McGahey gave Stanford in the Vale a 1-0 triumph at lowly Lambourn Sports.

Steventon closed to within three points of top spot in Division 2 with a 3-1 home victory over Harwell

Village.

John Green struck twice to put the hosts two goals up, before Gareth Fenton pulled one back for Lambourn.

But Steventon’s victory was sealed in stoppage time when Engeli Zeneli unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner.

David Summersbee scored twice as Grove Rangers won 3-1 at Highworth Town Development in Division 3.

Tommy Allen was also on target for Rangers, while Joe Adams replied.

Benson Lions went second in the table with their fourth straight win, defeating Wallingford Town Res 3-0.

Luke Willis, Jordan Jones and Matt Turl were all on the mark for the home side.

In Division 4, Callum Bowler hit a hat-trick as Long Wittenham Athletic Res beat visitors Dorchester Res 5-1.

Jay Mace and Lewis Griffiths also got in on the act for the home side, while Joe Marriot scored Dorchester’s consolation.

There were trebles apiece for Lewis Collacott and Ken Thebeyapole in Drayton’s 9-1 thumping of Stanford in the Vale Res.

George Brewerton, Gareth Small and Robson Barrett were also on target for the visitors, with Stuart Bithell grabbing Stanford’s goal.

Blewbury went down to their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 4-1 at home to Burghclere Res.

Charles Jamieson scored for the home side, but a Dean Stockwell double and goals from Joe Stockwell and Cian Weedon sealed their fate.

Jon Welch scored twice to give Berinsfield Res a 2-2 draw at home to Lambourn Sports.

James Coyle and Macaulay Gill replied for Lambourn.

Division 5 basement side Uffington United Res held Marcham Res to a 2-2 draw.

Joe Bunting and Mike Noon scored for Uffington, while Richard Saunders and Alex Menkin registered for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Alex B’layachi bagged a hat-trick as Watlington Town stunned visiting Faringdon Town Res 6-1 to book their place in the second round of the War Memorial Cup.

Conor B’layachi struck twice and Edgar Garces also scored as the Division 3 leaders shocked their Division 2 visitors.

Jamie Broadfield netted Faringdon’s consolation.

Dorchester thrashed Division 4 side Coleshill United 8-0, courtesy of an Alex Kerry hat-trick, two each from Jordan Lyne and Ben Parry and a Tom Nicholls effort.

Westminster secured a spot in the next round with a penalty shoot-out victory after a gruelling 1-1 draw at Hanney United.

James Bishop scored for Hanney and Simon Joyce for Westminster, but it was the visitors who advanced after a tense shoot-out.

Marcham avenged last week’s 3-1 league defeat to Uffington United with a 2-1 cup victory over the same opposition.

Goals from Tom Coates and David Yallop won it for Marcham, with Pete Byrne scoring for the visitors.

Unbeaten Division 5 leaders Grove Rangers Res shocked Division 2 visitors Kintbury Rangers Res 2-1 in the League Cup preliminary round.

Luke Connor put the visitors in front, but Grove turned it around with goals from Arran Colley and James Manning.
