SAXTON Rovers missed out on the North Berks League Division 1 title, despite winning 4-1 at home to title rivals Lambourn Sports, writes PHIL ANNETS.
Rovers had led the division for much of the season, but back-to-back defeats to Abingdon Town and Berinsfield knocked them off their perch and even victory on Saturday wasn’t enough.
Wayne Waldron, Tom Stanley, Louis Bloomfield and Mike Smith netted the winning goals for Saxton, with Ben Matthews replying.
Instead the title belongs to Kintbury Rangers, who beat Long Wittenham Athletic 2-1 at home.
Matt Saunders netted for Athletic, but Rangers were able to hang on after taking a two goal lead thanks to Joe Cummuskey and Charlie Allsop.
At the foot of the table, Faringdon Town won 4-2 at home to Dorchester courtesy of a Richard Evans double and goals from Robbie Harrington and George Hegg.
Jack Rowe bagged a brace for Dorchester in reply.
Grove Rangers sealed fourth place in Division 3 following their 2-2 draw at Newbury Res.
Bill McDonald and Steve Vaux scored their goals whilst Allister Croxford and Martin Kemp netted for Newbury.
East Hendred Res added the North Berks League Cup to their Division 4 title after beating Division 5 champions Hungerford Town Swifts Res 3-1 in the final at Wallingford Town.
Damien Lybech-Harris converted a late penalty for Swifts but by then the game had already been won courtesy of strikes by Ricky Andrews, Neil Cheshire and Liam Eltham.
