Tom Parker’s wind-assisted free-kick fired Abingdon Town into their first North Berks League Cup final, with a 1-0 win over local rivals Saxton Rovers, writes PHIL ANNETS.

Louis Bloomfield had a glorious opportunity to put Saxton in front from the penalty spot early in the second half, after Abingdon goalkeeper Ashley Brown brought down Steve Pitson.

However, he blasted his spot-kick over the bar.

Bloomfield’s miss proved costly as Parker’s curling free kick found the back of the net to send Town through.

Abingdon will be joined by Berinsfield in the final after their thrilling 4-2 extra time victory over league rivals Kintbury Rangers.

Charlie Allsop and James Mandry scored for Kintbury.

But a Max Palmer double and goals from David Murphy and Mason Curtis earned Berinsfield their second victory over the Berkshire side in as many weeks.

The victory keeps Berinsfield’s hopes of a league and cup double alive.

They look set to win North Berks Division 1 as they are a point behind Kintbury, who have played all their matches, with two games remaining.

It was a day to forget for Marcham in Division 2, as they suffered an 8-0 thrashing at new leaders Lambourn Sports.

Sam Conners hit a hat-trick and Tom Eatwell helped himself to a brace.

Lambourn’s Matt Pedder, Keenan Dundas and Mark Mooney also scored in the rout.

Gareth Cooper kept East Hendred’s title aspirations alive, with a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Coleshill United.

A brace from Kye Franklin was in vain as Saxton Rovers Res went down to a 5-2 defeat at Burghclere.

Scott Bowers, Ron O’Hagan and Dan Diallo also netted, while Connor Spraggs and David Cox replied for Saxton.

Sutton Courtenay suffered the same fate, also losing 5-2 at Kintbury Rangers Res.

Rhys Griffiths netted a double for the visitors.

However, two goals from Alastair Shambrook and further efforts by Craig Bruce, George Lybech-Harris and Jake Shearsby proved to be Sutton Courtenay’s undoing.

Hanney United completed their Division 3 campaign with an entertaining 3-3 draw at Hungerford Town Swifts.

That point leaves them second in the table.

Hanney now nervously await the outcome of Newbury Res’ and Harwell Village’s final league matches of the campaign to determine whether they will win promotion to Division 2.

Shaun Harris, Jonathan Phair and James Carlini all scored for Hanney.

Lewis Sopp, Lee Franklin and Aidan Maycock were on the mark for Hungerford.

Bottom side Abingdon Town Res recorded a rare victory.

They edged mid-table side Benson Lions 3-2, thanks to a double from Adam Waclawek and a Rhys Probert goal.

Benson's replies came from Adrian Shaw and Chris Swales, but to no avail as they lost for the eighth time this season.

Lewis Monaghan and Andy Sutherland were on target to earn Long Wittenham Athletic Res a 2-0 victory at Kennington Athletic in Division 4.

Ricky Fletcher bagged a brace to help Drayton Res to a convincing 5-0 home win over Stanford in the Vale Res.

Gareth Small, Carl Bolton and Shane Turner also found the back of the net as Drayton completed their campaign in style.
