Berinsfield staged an incredible comeback to seize the initiative in the race for the North Berks League Division 1 title, writes PHIL ANNETS.

It looked bleak for the visitors as they found themselves 4-1 down at title rivals Kintbury Rangers after an hour, with Charlie Allsop netting a hat-trick and Shaun Thorp also scoring for the hosts. Mark Ingram’s penalty was all Berinsfield had to show for their efforts.

But a stunning response in the final stages handed the points to the visitors, with Ingram adding another penalty alongside goals from Max Palmer and David Murphy, before Brian Rawlings hit a dramatic late winner.

Abingdon Town moved up to third with a 2-1 home win over local rivals Drayton.

Mike Kent and Danny Cox scored their goals, with Ryan Seamark replying for the away side.

Steve Molloy was on target for Long Wittenham Athletic in their final game of the season, but they had to settle for a point as a goal from Tom Stanley earned visitors Saxton Rovers a 1-1 draw.

Harwell Village kept up their chances of claiming the Division 3 runners-up spot with a tight 3-2 win over Hungerford Town Swifts.

Johnny Stockwell and an Andy Maycock penalty kept the visitors in touch.

However, two Gareth Fenton strikes and a Wes Coster effort won the game for Harwell.

Ardington & Lockinge were crowned Division 4 champions as they cruised to a 7-0 thrashing of Stanford in the Vale Res.

Jason O’Hanlon notched a hat-trick, Jonny James scored twice and Ollie O’Hanlon and Ian Bowman were also among the goals for the champions.

Wallingford Town Res retained the League Cup with a 2-0 win over Faringdon Town A at Milton United.

Division 4’s Faringdon, beaten finalists for the second year running, created most of the early chances, with Sam Long being denied by an excellent goalline clearance from Simon Cowlard.

But they paid the price for their missed chances when Mikey Bone lobbed goalkeeper Ian Oglesby to put Wallingford in front.

Dan Marks sealed it for the Division 5 side after the break with a low drive into the bottom corner, handing Wallingford their second successive League Cup success.
