GARSINGTON sprung a surprise over Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division side Marston Saints in the second round of the President’s Cup, beating their higher-league opponents 4-1 away from home.

Andrew McMahon put the Division 1 side ahead after just three minutes.

Ben Curtis doubled the lead, before Matty Holton pulled one back for the home side midway through the first half.

Garsington also started strongly after the break, with McMahon and Tyrone Blackett netting within 15 minutes of the restart to put the game beyond Saints and fire Garsington into the quarter-finals.

Adam Wells hit a hat-trick to hand Yarnton a 5-2 home victory over Broughton & North Newington in the first round of the Ben Turner Cup.

Owen Bunce and Senan Simmons also scored for the hosts, with Jonathan Bedding’s brace not enough for the visitors.

They will be joined in the second round by Launton Sports, who overcame the pain of conceding a last-minute equaliser to beat Northway on penalties.

The game had ended 4-4 after extra time.

Joe Deery scored twice for Sports alongside goals from Lee Brown and Mark Scanes, while Tej Constant, Ryan Thorne, Lewis Welby and Jake Carter netted for Northway.

But it was the visitors who held their nerve best, winning 7-6 on penalties.

In the Premier Division, John Webb’s second-half hat-trick for Bletchingdon was in vain as they went down 5-3 at Adderbury Park.

Two goals from Josh Bowden and efforts from Josh Reilly, Junior Howards and Dean Fuller had given the hosts a 5-0 lead at the break.

Horspath beat Riverside 3-1. Liam O’Callaghan’s super strike put the visitors in front but Tom Chase levelled from the penalty spot.

Horspath went on to win it with second-half goals from Simon Evans and Keiran Davis.

Ed Somerton headed in a late equaliser to send Middleton Cheney top of Division 1 with a 2-2 draw at home to North Oxford.

Andy Boyles had given the hosts an early lead before Sidiq Hamis and Paul Kovac scored for North Oxford.

Kristian Thomas bagged four goals as Kidlington Old Boys thrashed Charlton 5-0, with debutant substitute Olly Gibbs netting the fifth with his first touch.

Marston Saints Res lost 4-0 away at Easington Sports.

Adderbury Park Res moved up to second in Division 2 with a crushing 10-0 win at Charlton Res.

Daniel Butler, David Rose, Josh Cohenney and Mark Farrow bagged a brace each, while Charlton defender Zak Blackman also scored an unwanted brace of his own – twice putting the ball into his own net.

Goals from Adi Williams and Dan Alsworth gave Freeland Res a 2-1 win at Garsington Res, with Zak Betnay pulling one back for the hosts.
