NORTH BERKS LEAGUE

LONG Wittenham Athletic lifted the North Berks Cup for a record 16th time after coming from behind to beat Dorchester 2-1 at Abingdon United, writes PHIL ANNETS.

Josh Nicholls had put Dorchester in front after his initial effort had been blocked by Joe Murphy.

But holders Long Wittenham equalised eight minutes later when Tim Barton lofted the ball over Dorchester goalkeeper Jon Lever.

They took the lead after the break, Chris Bowler heading home Andy Cooper’s long throw from six yards.

Dorchester then mounted a barrage of attacks, but were unable to find a way through.

Benny Sutton’s extra-time winner gave Saxton Rovers Res a 2-1 success over Kintbury Rangers Res in the final of the Nairne Paul Trophy.

Dan Hosier gave Saxton the lead, latching onto Jamie Davies’ free-kick before slotting past Kintbury goalkeeper Ross Thorne, but Luke Ramos fired in from the edge of the box to level before the break.

Neither side were able to make the breakthrough in the second half, but deep into extra time, Sutton raced onto a long ball from James Haw-thorne before lobbing the keeper to give Saxton victory.

Wantage Town A secured the runners-up spot in Division 2 with a tight 2-1 win at Coleshill United.

James Tranter scored for the hosts, but goals from Ben Eltham and Jamie Wilkins won it for the visitors.

Ryan Seamark notched a hat-trick for Drayton, who will finish third after beating Faringdon Town Res 4-3 with Pat Walsh sealing it.

Jason Evans (2) and James Tyler scored for Faringdon.

Hanney United lost 3-1 at newly-crowned Division 3 champions Burghclere, who were presented with the trophy afterwards.

Alistair Baillie scored twice and Tom Smallridge hit the other, while Joe Richardson netted for Hanney.

Grove Rangers’ match at Drayton Res was abandoned after 78 minutes, with the visitors 4-0 up.

A brace each from Joe Ledbury and Matt Cramp had put Rangers on course for victory, but the match was called off by referee Keith Godfrey following an altercation with a Drayton player, who had been sent off.

Charlie Jamieson hit a hat-trick as Berinsfield Res ended their campaign with a 7-3 home win over Ardington & Lockinge Res.

Andie Samson also netted twice alongside Dan Osbourne and Jon Welch, with Jason O’Hanlon, Josh Patrick and Adam Bruce all scoring in vain for Ardington.

Steventon Res secured third spot in Division 5 with a comprehensive 6-1 home victory over Challow.

Stuart Coppock bagged a brace and Alan Donnelly, Barry McBeth, Robert Cox and Martin Hudson one each, while Freddie Ritson hit Challow’s consolation.
