Ardington & Lockinge’s North Berks League Division 1 title bid faltered as they were held 1-1 at Wallingford Town, writes PHIL ANNETS.

Nick Wilkins scored their goal, but Simon Vaisey’s gave lowly Wallingford a point.

Harwell International and Long Wittenham Athletic shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

Lee Chapman and Jake Chaffey netted for Harwell, but Matt Saunders and Joe Cheung replied for Wittenham.

In Division 2 East Hendred missed the chance to go top, losing 1-0 at home to Drayton with Danny Curran netting the winner.

Phil Jeacock, Wes Coster and Shane Northcott all scored for Marcham in their 3-1 home win over Radley, whilst Shaun Bray netted the only goal to give Steventon a 1-0 win over Faringdon Town Res.

Sutton Courtenay moved off the bottom to be replaced by Saxton Rovers Res whom they beat 3-0 courtesy of Josh Gilsenan, Pawel Brodzinski and Dan Cadman strikes PROmotion-chasing Hanney United came unstuck 3-1 at Division 3 leaders Kintbury Rangers Res.

Alastair Shambrook netted twice with James Keen grabbing the other. Neil Pimm hit the consolation for Hanney.

Second placed Westminster won 1-0 at home to Stanford in the Vale with Jason Hillis grabbing the all-important goal.

Benson Lions now occupy third spot after their 3-1 home win over Blewbury. Luke Willis bagged a brace alongside an own goal, whilst Tom Savage replied for the visitors.

Burghclere maintained their unbeaten league record with a 3-2 home win over Milton United Res, and with games in hand, are still in serious contention for the title despite lying mid-table.

Matt Fidler, Robert O’Hagan and Matt Ray scored their goals, with Rhys Griffiths netting a double for Milton.

Craig Sprules hit the only hat-trick of the day as Hungerford Town Swifts romped to a 7-1 victory at Clanfield 85 Res.

Lewis Sopp, Dee Rowswell, Damian Lybech-Harris and Garth Franklin scored their other four goals whilst Kieran Mackie netted the consolation for Clanfield.

The top two sides in Division 4 were also both triumphant.

Leaders Turnpike Sports won a tight contest 2-1 at home to Grove Rangers thanks to Mark Davies (2). Grant Summersbee netted for Grove.

Benson AFC also won 2-1 away from home at Berinsfield Res.

Charles and Dominic Sellwood scored their goals, whilst Andie Samson registered for the home side.

Hagbourne United fought out a 1-1 draw with East Hendred Res as Charlie Black’s goal for the home side was cancelled out by James Hicks for the visitors.

In Division 5, Appleton Stars earned their first league point of the season with an excellent 3-3 draw at Crowmarsh Gifford Res.

Dominic Byrne, Andrew Alder and Paul Robinson grabbed their goals with their hosts scoring via Martyn Newbold and a Ben Higgins double. Dan Tucker with two, Alex Rodman, Gareth Cole with a penalty and player-manager Paul Goodall all scored for Didcot Eagles in their comfortable 5-0 home victory over Stanford in the Vale Res.

Nick Gordon netted for Challow, but they still lost 3-1 at home to Hagbourne United Res who scored through a Mustapha Jallow double and a Warren Ralph effort.

  • Division 4 side Faringdon Town and Wallingford Town Res, from a division lower, will contest this season’s North Berks League Cup final.

Christian Wills scored the only goal to give Faringdon a 1-0 win over Long Wittenham Athletic Res in their last-four clash, whilst Charlie Lee (2) and Luke Higgins netted for Wallingford as they beat last year’s winners Ardington & Lockinge 3-1, with Alex Watts grabbing a late consolation.

  • Abingdon United Res lost out at Division 1 Kintbury Rangers 3-1 in their delayed third-round North Berks Charity Shield clash.

Dan Oatway scored for the lower league side, but Charlie Allsop with two and Iggy Ilott won the match for Kintbury.

In an all Division 1 clash, Faringdon Town strolled to a 6-1 home win over Crowmarsh Gifford with Sam Roberts bagging a brace and Paul Sanders, Mike van de Mortel, Liam Humphries and Derren Harrington all scoring.

Sam Whiteley replied in vain for Crowmarsh.

  • North Berks League Division 2 pacesetters Wantage Town A won 3-2 at Reading League Division 2 outfit Eldon Celtic in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup..

A Chris Roche strike and a Liam McCullough double gave Wantage the victory to set up an all-North Berks League semi-final against Abingdon United Res.
