Two goals from Berinsfield captain Brian Rawlings helped end Ardington & Lockinge’s unbeaten North Berks League Division 1 record and put a dent in their title aspirations, writes Phil Annets.
Remarkably, Berinsfield, 4-3 winners after being 3-1 behind, were down to nine men at one stage with Paul Jones dismissed after 12 minutes and Chris Jones off injured for seven minutes.
Tom Rowe put Ardington ahead only for Rawlings to level. Nick Wilkins and Jake Rowe then struck for Ardington.
But Rawlings slotted in a free kick from 30 yards and Shane Harris’s header levelled it.
Five minutes from time, Ardington keeper Callum Rowe punched the ball against a defender and it went straight to Mike Hinkin, who nodded in the winner.
There were huge celebrations by Berinsfield, no doubt matched by Ardington’s title rivals Dorchester and Kintbury.
Hosts Dorchester were beaten 2-1at home in the North Berks League Charity Shield by Division 2 Wantage Town A.
Kieran Davis scored a late goal for Dorchester, but Jamie Wilkins’ brace won it.
