FOOTBALL: Rangers go to town to grab Shield glory
6:00am Wednesday 5th February 2014 in Sat Local
Carterton Rangers took the honours in their home clash with Carterton Town A to reach the semi-finas of the Oxfordshire John Fathers Oxon Junior Shield.
Once again Rangers, who are mid-table in Division 2, enjoyed bagging a Premier scalp as they edged home 4-3 in a thriller.
Town were missing several influential players, but can have no complaints about the result.
Ben Pearce, James Barker, Sam Giles and an own goal were Rangers scorers with Lee Mosely, Marc Stayte and Chris MacNeil replying.
The all-Witney & District FA Premier Division tie between Charlbury and Witney Royals promised to be a tight affair based upon the clubs’ league tussles.
But in reality it proved to a one-sided affair with home side Charlbury running out convincing 5-0 winners.
Charlbury player-manager Craig McCallum hit a double, with father-and-son combination of Tony and Dan Bott also on target.
An own goal completed Royals’ miserable day.
Due to the poor weather, there was only one game in the Premier Division, but it was significant at the foot of the table as second bottom Chadlington defeated Aston 2-1 at home.
In tacky conditions, Aston took an early lead when Phil Caswell fired home from close range.
Chadlington levelled just before the break when new boy Jack Turner nodded in Steven Hunt’s cross.
In the second half, Hunt headed home his seventh goal of the season from Mark Sheffield’s corner.
James Adams and Hunt had further chances to increase the lead, but they were squandered as Chadlington held on for their first victory of the campaign.
Hollybush returned to the top of Division 2 as they defeated bottom side Witney Royals Res 6-3 away from home.
The experience and ability of Lee Keyes was the difference between the two sides as he bagged a five-timer.
Kev Davies added Hollybush’s other goal with Andrew Part-lett, Max Lucas and Richard Sins replying for the youthful hosts.
Minster Lovell Res strengthened their second position in Division 3 with a 4-0 victory at Kingham Res.
There were two goals apiece for Nathan Bowles and Craig Sallis.
Corinthians are back on top of Division 4 with a 4-2 home over Bampton United Res.
The hosts were missing several first choice men and others were playing against medical advice so the victory was even more satisfying.
One of the walking wounded, Frank Webb, took his tally for the season to 22 as he grabbed a hat-trick, with Dan Hackett adding the other.
Nathan Beckett scored a brace for Bampton.
