10:30am Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Sat Local
OAKLEY United opened up a ten-point gap at the top of the Premier Division with a 2-0 victory over Bletchingdon.
A brace from Aaron Rogers proved to be the difference between the two sides and he opened the scoring after 20 minutes from a free-kick.
Todd Parker Hunt had a chance to level the scores from the penalty spot, but sent his effort over the bar.
Rogers made the home side pay on 70 minutes, capitalising on a defensive error to seal victory for the league leaders.
Kidlington Old Boys held on for their first Division 1 win of the season, though they had to endure a nervy ending before beating North Oxford 3-2.
Tony Skinner, Deshawn Whiteman and Sam Pantin struck to give the visitors a 3-0 half-time lead.
But they had to hang on in the second period after a brace from Max Palmer gave the hosts hope of a comeback, but they could not find an equaliser.
Charlton United ended Kidlington Res’ 100 per cent start to the season, holding the home side to a 1-1 draw.
Debutant Callum Green had given Kidlington the lead after 25 minutes, but the visitors struck back and levelled when Paul Mitchell slipped through a gap in the defence before rounding the keeper to net.
Leaders Middleton Cheney were unable to capitalise on Kidlington’s slip, after falling to their first defeat of the season against Broughton & North Newington.
John Umney took advantage of some hesitant defending to give the hosts the lead and despite trying desperately to find an equaliser, Cheney were unable to find a way past a steadfast defence.
Eynsham Res overcame a late scare to hang on for a 4-3 victory over Freeland Res in Division 2.
A hat-trick from Freeland’s Tom Gerken gave the hosts hope of a dramatic comeback, but they fell just short.
Eynsham had taken a 3-0 lead through Tim Wharton, Andy Glossop and Tom Olley and despite Gerken finding the scoresheet for Freeland, the game appeared to be over when Glossop netted his second to make it 4-1.
But Gerken struck twice more to set up a frantic final few minutes as the hosts ran out of time to find an equaliser.
Horspath Res came from behind to beat Charlton United Res 3-1 at home in Division 3.
They fell behind to an early goal from Chris Stalker.
Simon Evans levelled the scores before half-time with Daniel Normington giving Horspath the lead after the break and Evans adding his second to seal the points.
A fantastic solo goal from Darren Gascoyne looked like giving Oakley United Res a home win over North Oxford Res.
But they were undone by a late equaliser from David Hutton to give the visitors a share of the spoils.
- YARNTON ran out 1-0 winners over Watlington in the first round of the President's Cup.
The home side spurned a host of chances and paid the price when Jamie Smith seized on a wayward backpass before rounding the goalkeeper and sidefooting into the empty net to give Yarnton victory.
