FOOTBALL: Bletchingdon's bold fightback
10:00am Thursday 3rd January 2013 in Sat Local
Kennington keeper Nick Hill can only look on helplessly as Mark Gaul (left) watches his powerful right foot shot fly into the top corner for Bletchingdon’s equaliser
Bletchingdon recovered from an early setback to take a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Kennington in the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division.
Kennington took the lead after three minutes through Matty Crossan with a left-foot shot, which went in off the base of a post. But Bletchingdon created a string of chances, before Ben Foster crossed for Mark Gaul to smash in a deflected shot in the 40th minute.
Bletchingdon held the upper hand in the second half, with Ben Glastonbury, Gaul and Foster going close, but they were unable to force a winner.
Mark Harper grabbed a late equaliser to earn Yarnton a 3-3 draw at Kidlington Old Boys in Division 1.
Kristian Thomas opened the scoring for Kidlington only for Michael Trafford to level before half-time.
Thomas’s second restored Old Boys’ lead after the break, but Mark Harris equalised once more.
Chris Wise marked his return from six weeks on the sidelines by putting Kidlington ahead for a third time, but Yarnton weren’t to be denied and Harper made it all-square.
Oakley Res went second in Division 3 with a thumping 8-2 win at Watlington Res.
Jimmy Drewett, Chris Davies and Dan Toma bagged braces, with Jamie Smith and Dominic Russell, with his first goal for the club, also on target for Oakley.
Frazer Wilson’s penalty and Keith Woolfson made up Watlington’s reply.
