Oxford City boss Mike Ford says his side face their most important game of the season when they entertain Corby Town in Blue Square Bet North tonight.

Seventh-placed City are unbeaten in three matches and come into the game on the back of Saturday’s 3-1 victory away at Harrogate Town.

And Ford says it is vital they get a win against resurgent Corby, who have won both their matches since manager Chris Plummer took over, the latest a 3-1 victory over strugglers Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

“It’s the first game this season that there is expectation on us to win,” said Ford.

“And that’s because we have started reasonably well.

“After tonight’s game we don’t have a league match for ten days, until we play Guiseley, who are going well.

“I’m under no illusions that there will be times when we don’t pick up points, so it’s important, when you are in-form, that you make the most of it.”

He added: “When a new manager comes in there is always a resurgence because players want their place in the team.

“They feel they have a point to prove.

“So it’s probably the worst ever time to play them (Corby).

“We have to deal with that and the fact we are playing at home.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re 100 per cent bang at it. Anything less and any team can come to our place and win.

“I’m expecting my team to do it properly.”

Meanwhile, defender Wayne Blossom has left City as he felt his first-team chances were limited.

Ford said: “He got injured at the wrong time and at the moment the best he can hope for is a place on the bench.

“We spoke on Saturday and he said he didn’t want to be travelling with the team just to sit on the bench.

“If any manager asked about Wayne, I would say ‘sign him’ because he is outstanding.

“He came to the club and helped save us from relegation and then he captained us to promotion to the Blue Square Bet North.

“It has been a very good arrangement.

“But having been out injured and everyone playing so well it has been difficult for him to get a game with us.”
