Oxford City boss Mike Ford says he will not be tempted to rush striker Steve Basham back into action and risk being without him for the Premier Division run-in.

The former Oxford United frontman, who has scored 13 goals since joining from Brackley, misses tomorrow’s home game against Weymouth as he recovers from an Achilles injury, though Ford is hoping he will be available within the next few weeks.

“He’s coming along nicely, but I don’t want to rush him,” said Ford.

“To have a player of his experience back for the last 15 games of the season would be enormous for us.

“The players that have come in have done well, but to have a fresh Steve Basham coming back will help.”

Meanwhile, Ford was delighted with new signing Olly Taylor, who made his debut against Leamington.

“He did fine and contributed to a fantastic team display.”

City will also miss ankle injury victims Darren Pond and Aaron Woodley, though Felipe Barcelos and Michael Lyon return from bans.

Banbury United manager Ady Fuller has told his side to buck their ideas up, starting with the visit of Stourbridge.

Fuller was furious at his team’s display in their 2-1 defeat at Hemel Hempstead and said a similar show would not be tolerated.

“It was disappointing – we didn’t match them for workrate,” said Fuller.

“We have got to get back to how we were playing at the start of the season and start picking up some points.

“We were playing with five or six players (on their game) and you are never going to win a game if that happens.

“Even if you don’t play well, but work hard, you are going to be fine.

“I was not at all happy with them. We had a chat with them on Tuesday to ask them to show they wanted to play Saturday, and to be fair we had a good training session.”

Banbury will be without the injured duo of Martin Hutchcox and Nick Kingston.
