Didcot Town boss Ady Williams says the superb performance of striker Michael Bartley in their midweek victory at Oxford City can help galvanise their season – starting with Saturday's trip to Bedford Town.

Bartley capped a brilliant display with the third goal in their 3-0 triumph at Court Place Farm – their first win in six games.

“Michael Bartley led the line like a gladiator– he has a real presence,” said Williams, who was delighted by the response of his players after Saturday’s home defeat by Bashley.

“When you have a player that leads the line like that, it’s brilliant to see.

“Fifteen of our players jumped on him when he scored and that says a lot about what they felt.

“I was absolutely delighted with our performance.

“I thought we put in a shift and thoroughly deserved the win.

“Our decision-making was excellent and our fitness looked good.

“Saturday was a horrible game and we got done by two corners .

“So I knew we had to get better. The lads were outstanding.

“Trevor Mutero added extra energy. He was up and down the pitch like nobody’s business and Sam Warrell (goalkeeper) came in and did well.

Meanwhile, Williams is looking forward to his trip to Bedford, whom he helped keep up last season.

He said: “It will be nice going back there, I got on great with the chairman.

“My job was to keep them in the division and I did that. I still know a lot of the lads there and I’m expecting a bit of stick.”

Williams added: “We have set the standard high and we now have keep it up.

“But we’re not getting carried away. Bedford beat Truro 1-0 away from home, so it’s another difficult game for us.”

Meanwhile, City boss Mike Ford, whose side are without a game as they were due to play the now defunct Windsor, is resisting the temptation to have the players in for extra training following the Didcot defeat.

“I decided that I would give them a break from football because often that can help,” he said “We were poor although I don’t want to take anything away from Didcot – they showed exceptionally well how to win a game.”
