MATT Paterson and Reece Fleet scored braces as Oxford City came from two goals down to beat Kidlington 5-3 in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.

Anaclet Odhiambo and Lewis Coyle gave Julian McCalmon’s men a dream start, before City’s impressive response.

Paterson and Fleet’s first strikes sandwiched Ezra Forde’s effort to put them 3-2 up at half-time.

The pair got on the score sheet again early in the second half to seal City’s first victory in the competition since 2003, despite Odhiambo’s late consolation.

City may play two divisions higher than Kidlington, but their squad was so depleted Mark Jones could only name two substitutes.

Kidlington took advantage and came flying out of the traps.

Odhiambo opened the scoring in the ninth minute, tucking a neat 15-yard shot into the far corner of Craig King’s net.

Coyle had supplied the pass and he made it 2-0 eight minutes later from the penalty spot after Lance Williams had been fouled.

City were rocking, but gained a foothold in the game when Paterson despatched Joe Oastler’s ball into the box on 25 minutes.

And the Vanarama National League South side showed their class with a flowing move to equalise nine minutes before the break.

Right back Eddie Jones began the move in his own half, playing in Kavan Cotter to square for Forde, who steadied himself before firing a shot under Kidlington goalkeeper Sam Warrell.

Odhiambo had a goal ruled out for offside, before City’s turnaround was completed on the stroke of half-time.

It was a gift from Warrell as the ball squirmed from his grasp and Fleet was on hand to tap into the empty net.

Paterson gave City breathing space a minute into the second half, latching on to Warrell’s poor clearance and chipping into the empty net.

The striker was then denied a hat-trick by the Kidlington goalkeeper, but his parry fell for Fleet to convert for the fifth goal.

City squandered several chances to add to their tally, before Odhiambo made it 5-3 on the break nine minutes from time.

Only an excellent save from King denied the striker from completing his hat-trick and setting up a grandstand finish, but City had done enough to finish the season with silverware.
