CONNOR Vincent’s early header proved the difference as Didcot Town lost 1-0 to Hitchin Town in the BigFreeBet.com Southern League Challenge Cup final.

The clash at the Top Field had been postponed twice, but the hosts took just nine minutes to open the scoring from a corner.

Hitchin, who play in the Evo-Stik South League Premier Division, a tier higher than the Railwaymen, were the better side in the first half.

But Didcot responded well after the break as they went in search of an equaliser.

Felipe Barcelos forced a parry from Hitchin goalkeeper Michael Johnson, but the ball bounced just out of George Reid’s reach.

Seth Humphries and substitute Morgan Williams also came close, but Hitchin held firm to lift the trophy.

Tonight, Kidlington and North Leigh play their third West Division games in six days.

Kidlington host play-off hopefuls Swindon Supermarine, while the Millers visit Bideford.

  • OXFORD United host Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League 2 this evening.

Andy Cook’s side would climb above their opponents with a win at Court Place Farm (7.45pm).
