OXFORD City boss Mark Jones is calling for one final push as his side bid to finally put the fear of relegation behind them.

Fellow strugglers Eastbourne Borough visit Court Place Farm in Vanarama National League South tomorrow.

And Jones is adamant one more win should all-but guarantee City’s safety.

Their 1-0 defeat at home to Chippenham on Easter Monday was not as damaging as it could have been.

Poole Town, the only side in the drop zone that could realistically catch City, also lost.

Jones is keen to put all their fears behind them as soon as possible.

And with six games left, a win tomorrow could see City increase their cushion above the drop zone to 12 points.

Jones said: “We didn’t lose or gain anything on Monday.

“We are still in the same situation as we were before that game, where one win will probably do it.

“The frustrating thing is we are not a million miles off, but just can’t quite get over the line.

“We need to get our noses in front and that will make life easier for ourselves.

“We haven’t scored at home for three matches, so getting that first goal will be a relief.”

Finding the net is becoming a frustration for Jones, who was, once again, left ruing a lack of cutting edge against Chippenham.

He said: “It was another disappointing day for us.

“I did see it as an opportunity to pick up that crucial win, but unfortunately the pattern of the game was similar to many others we’ve seen.

“We had much of the game and were dominant in possession, but just lacked that bit of quality in the final third again.

“There’s no question that our conversion rate needs to be a lot better.

“It’s something I’ve been speaking about for most of the season, but that cost us on Monday.

“We need to be far more ruthless.”

City will be boosted by the return of striker Sam Nombe, who missed Monday’s game as he was playing for Milton Keynes Dons in an academy fixture.

Godfrey Poku is also set to return after recovering from the dislocated knee he suffered at Welling United last month.

Jones said: “That’s a big boost for us.

“Thankfully Godfrey’s injury was not as bad as we had feared, and it will be good to have him back.

“Having Sam (Nombe) back will also help as he has a lot of quality and has scored some important goals for us.”

Meanwhile, City’s match at Braintree, which was abandoned on Good Friday due to a waterlogged pitch, has been re-arranged for Tuesday, April 24.
