THAME United boss Mark West has bemoaned his players’ lack of availability ahead of their trip to Uxbridge tomorrow.

The manager says having members of his squad drop out was a major factor in their 7-2 hammering at struggling Aylesbury United in the East Division on Easter Monday.

West had to name himself on the bench just to make up the numbers for the Evo-Stik South clash.

He said: “When you have a small squad already, having players dropping out on the morning of a game is not good.

“I feel that some of my players let the others down.

“I shouldn’t be naming myself on the bench, but having three or four players dropping out at 10am on the morning of a game is really bad, it’s just wrong.

“When we have our full squad, we’re as good as most teams in this league.

“We have to change things, get a bigger squad in, so when a few go away, we can still get a decent team on the pitch.

“None of the lads that did play on Monday let us down, they tried their hearts out, but that’s where we are at right now. Things need to change.”

West hopes his squad will be back to near full-strength this weekend.

Didcot Town bid to get their West Division play-off bid back on track when they travel to Barnstaple Town.

The Railwaymen had to settle for a 1-1 draw last weekend at home to Cinderford in a game that saw Callum McNish, who begins a three-match ban tomorrow, sent off.

That result means Andy Ballard’s men are a point outside the play-offs.

Didcot’s boss said: “I felt we didn’t really get ourselves going last week against Cinderford, and they came and stopped us playing the way that we like to.

“We need to make sure we are on it again.”

Ballard added that losing McNish to suspension will hamper their chances.

He said: “It’s a big blow to lose a player of Callum’s quality and experience, but it does give someone else a chance to come in and cement their place for the final six league games.”

Adam Learoyd is a doubt as his wife is expecting their third child.

Stuart Cattell, who injured his toe in a DIY accident last week, is set to return, as is Seth Humphries, but Sam Elkins (knee) remains sidelined.

North Leigh can put to bed any lingering fears of relegation when they travel to Bishops Cleeve.

Although the Millers are ten points above the basement boys, they are not mathematically safe.

But three points would be just the boost John Brough’s men need.

He said: “We go to Cleeve looking to continue our recent upturn in form.

“They have also improved lately, so it will be a really tough game.”

Anthony Simpson and Jamie Cook return.

Kidlington make the trip to Paulton Rovers, buoyed by reaching the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.

The Greens beat Banbury United 3-2 after extra-time on Wednesday.

Manager Julian McCalmon is hoping the carrot of a final will give his side an extra boost during a busy month of ten games in 22 days.

He said: “It was a very good result and I’m even more impressed with the performance.

“We know what we’re capable of and our problem has been finding that consistency.

“We’re going to try to finish the season as strong as possible.”

Mike Ford says Banbury will learn from their cup defeat as they look to bounce back immediately with a home clash against Biggleswade Town.

The Puritans are unbeaten in eight Premier Division games and the boss is expecting a tight encounter after the sides drew 1-1 earlier this season.

Ford had no complaints about Wednesday’s result and, with seven league games remaining, he is looking forward to experimenting in the last month of the season.

He said: “Sometimes football can teach you a lesson, you prefer it not to happen off the back of a defeat.

“Just recently, we’ve been trying to be in control of games for longer and it contributed to us not winning the game.

“But our league position suggests we can try things.”
