OXFORD City’s Eddie Jones was sent off in the dying minutes of his side’s 1-0 home defeat by Chippenham Town.

The defender’s dismissal completed a poor day for Mark Jones’s team, who remain nine points above the relegation zone in Vanarama National League South.

Jones was shown the red card when, as the last man, he brought down an attacker just outside the area.

City started well with Matt Paterson firing a good chance at Chippenham keeper Jared Thompson.

But the visitors took the lead in the 29th minute, when Jake Jackson picked up a loose ball in midfield before shooting past keeper Craig King.

City had two chances to level but Freddie Grant saw a shot blocked, while Zac McEachran’s effort was saved.

In the second half, Mamadou Fofana and McEachran both tested the visitors’ keeper but City could not find a way through and had to settle a home defeat.

Oxford City: King, Jones, Stevens, Fofana (Cotter 79), Musonde, Oastler, McEachran, Fleet, Paterson (Forde 59, Sinclair, Grant (Godwin-Malife 70).
