OXFORD City boss Mark Jones is looking for redemption tomorrow when his side entertain high-flying Dartford at Court Place Farm.

Jones points to the 7-1 defeat in Kent earlier in the season as the low point of the season

City finished the Vanarama South League game with nine men after Freddie Grant was sent off and Mo Fofana was taken off with injury.

Since that fateful day, City have endured mixed fortunes, while Dartford have gone on to become serious title contenders, and lie just two points behind leaders Havant & Waterlooville.

And Jones expects his players to want to show their visitors just what they are capable of.

“We were well beaten at Dartford,” he said. “They taught us a lesson and we were nowhere near good enough on the day.

“It’s never a nice feeling to be involved in a game like that, and so there is obviously a real motivation for us to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

City’s 3-1 win at Welling last weekend means they are now nine points above the drop zone and seemingly heading towards safety.

But Jones is adamant they will not be taking their foot off the gas.

“Dartford are right up there fighting for the title and will no doubt bring a big following with them,” he said.

“I’d like to think with the quality of football that we are playing lately, and with Oxford United not having a game, that we can have a big crowd and create a big atmosphere.

“We have come a long way since the Dartford game away, a case in point being Freddie.

“That wasn’t a good day for him back then, but we’re delighted with how he is playing now. He’s made massive progress.”

Meanwhile, the prognosis on the injury Godfrey Poku, picked up last week, is better than first feared.

Poku was stretchered off against Welling, but after scans have revealed the problem is not as bad as first thought.

“He dislocated his knee, but it popped back in and scans have shown no ligament damage,” Jones commented.

“We are very hopeful he will be back before the end of the season.

“It at least gives Mo (Fofana) an opportunity to take his chance again.”
