OXFORD City stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games as they earned a 1-0 victory at Gloucester City.

Rob Sinclair scored the only goal of the game as Mark Jones’s side built on Saturday’s goalless draw with high-flying Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The victory has lifted City up to 17th in Vanarama National League South, four points clear of the relegation zone.

They took the lead against Gloucester on 16 minutes when a quick free-kick found Sinclair in space.

And the midfielder made the most of the opportunity by slotting underneath the goalkeeper.

The hosts looked to respond and Joe Parker fired wide, before Robbie Cundy headed over.

Gloucester continued to create chances before the break, but Ethan Moore was also off target with his effort.

The visitors defended resolutely to keep the hosts at bay in the second half.

However, Gloucester did find the net on 89 minutes, only for it to be ruled out for offside as City earned victory.

Oxford City: Stevens, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Jones HT), Grant, Poku (Forde 78), Navarro, Oastler, McEachran, Fofana, Paterson, Sinclair (Pearce 78), Fleet. Subs not used: Khawaja, Godwin-Malife.

City shared a goalless draw with Hampton & Richmond Borough at Marsh Lane on Saturday.

The result saw Jones’s side end their visitors’ eight-match winning streak.

And Hampton had goalkeeper Sam Howes to thank for pulling off a magnificent reflex save in the dying seconds to prevent City from picking up all three points.

Howes was perhaps fortunate on four minutes as he appeared to handle outside the box under pressure from Zac McEachran, but referee Alex Blake adjudged it to have been just inside.

Matt Paterson had the first clear chance on 13 minutes as, after receiving the ball from Sinclair’s cross, he forced an excellent save from Howes.

Hampton had their chances, with Max Kretzschmar forcing City goalkeeper Jack Stevens into a smart save with a low free kick under the defensive wall.

Kretzchmar linked up with Charlie Wassmer just after the break and forced Stevens into another save.

City should have taken the lead on 70 minutes, as Zac McEachran’s deflected shot found an unmarked Paterson, who could only guide the ball onto a post.

The final clear-cut chance fell to the hosts in the second of three added minutes as full-back Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s low driven ball was deflected towards the goal.

But Howes changed direction and somehow get a hand to push the ball onto the bar.
