OXFORD City boss Mark Jones says his side are fully focused on arresting their disappointing league form.

Victory over Bognor Regis Town in the Emirates FA Cup last week saw City secure a first-round trip to Colchester United.

But Jones is under no illusions as to their priorities ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Hemel Hempstead Town in Vanarama National League South.

City dropped into the relegation zone a fortnight ago, but Jones hopes that the thrill of last weekend’s Cup triumph will help them to kick on with a push up the table.

Jones said: “My focus, and that of my players, is on the next two league games.

“We simply have to start getting some points on the board as the relegation zone is obviously not where we need to be.”

City travel to Hertfordshire with a near full-strength squad after centre half and captain Lee Henderson came through last week after a lengthy lay-off.

Defender Miles Welch-Hayes returns after being cup-tied, while midfielder Mo Fofana has recovered from a hamstring injury.

Jones said: “Hemel will provide a really big test. The weather forecast is rotten with 50mph winds.

“We expect them to play a direct style, and it’s the type of game where we need to show plenty of character and fight.”

But Jones believes that is exactly what his team showed last week.

“I thought the lads were outstanding,” he said.

“Every one of them put in a shift, and we will really need that again.

“We have to be up for the battle, and they showed that they are last week.”

Jones singled out his defence for special praise after City kept only their third clean sheet of the season.

“Having Lee back was a great boost, but the back four were outstanding as a unit,” he said.

“Eddie (Jones) and Christian (Navarro) were terrific.

“Christian came over from Spain in the summer and wasn’t used to English football. We’ve given him time to have a look at it, and he’s improving every week.

“If we can keep the goals against column down, I’m confident we will get the results we deserve.

“One thing is certain, we are still very much together in the dressing room.

“We are putting the Colchester game to the back of our minds and are totally focused on the next two league games.”
