OXFORD City boss Mark Jones has reacted to their midweek mauling by Maidenhead United by bringing in three new faces ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Poole Town in Vanarama National League South.

Midfielder Connor Furlong, 19, who has been capped at youth level by Scotland, joins on loan from Sky Bet League One club MK Dons, for whom he played once in the Championship last season.

Guri Demuria moves from Beaconsfield SYCOB, while fellow defender George Essuman arrives from Dover Athletic.

Meanwhile, City have released winger Stephane Ngamvoulou.

The signings of Demuria and Essuman will bolster a City defence, which came in for scathing criticism from Jones after their 6-1 defeat at Maidenhead on Tuesday.

“It’s no disgrace losing to the top-of-the-table side, but it was a defensive horror show on Tuesday,” he said.

“We thought we had prepared well for the game, but you would never have thought so watching that performance.

“All our plans went out of the window because we could not concentrate and could not defend.

“We weren’t even competitive, and that type of performance just isn’t acceptable.”

City are not completely save from relegation.

Nine points separate them and Gosport Borough, who sit third from bottom.

And boss Jones insisted his players need to pick up their performances as they are still looking over their shoulders at the teams below them.

He said: “We’re not safe, we still need points on the board.

“Gosport have won their last two games, so we still need some wins to secure our position in this league.

“We need a couple more wins, no question.

“I’m not absolving myself of responsibility.

“I put the players out there, but I am passing some responsibility onto them.

“They let us down Tuesday, and I don’t say that lightly. I cannot defend our performance in the week.”

Defender Freddie Grant should return from injury, while striker Mike Fondop is back in contention.

Jones added: “We have a good record at home. We haven’t lost here since December, so I am expecting to see a good response.”
