OXFORD City endured an afternoon to forget as they crumbled to a 4-0 defeat away to Welling United on Saturday.

Neither side was able to find the net before half-time, but after Pierre Joseph-Dubois put the hosts in front just before the hour mark City collapsed.

Danny Waldren, Harry Crawford and Adam Coombes sealed a miserable afternoon for the visitors in Vanarama National League South.

A heavy defeat had looked unlikely in the early stages.

City’s Tom Winters was denied by goalkeeper Chris Lewington after being played through by Mike Fondop, moments before a big penalty appeal, when Josh Ashby went down under a Matt Fish challenge.

But the visitors were indebted to goalkeeper Craig Hill, who came in as a late replacement for the injured Tyrell Belford, for ensuring they went in level at the break.

He pulled off a spectacular one-handed save to keep out a Coombes free-kick.

For all their positivity, City failed to test Lewington again, with a Scott Davies 35-yard strike over the bar their closest effort.

And when Joseph-Dubois seized on a slip from Davies on 59 minutes to tuck home the opener there would be only one winner.

There was little City could do to prevent Waldren’s spectacular goal just four minutes later, as he brought the ball down beautifully before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner.

Crawford side-footed a third underneath Hill on 78 minutes and the damage was complete moments later, when Coombes dinked a free-kick over the wall and in off the bar.
