LES Taylor has vowed Oxford United will be a stronger side next season, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The U’s finished their FA Women’s Super League 2 campaign with a heavy 5-0 defeat at home to promoted Bristol City.

And the United boss admitted he had been disappointed with the way the campaign unfolded as Oxford claimed just four league wins and conceded 42 times in 18 games.

They finished second from bottom, but there is no relegation in this league.

“In the close season we’ll be looking at a few departments and trying to sort those out,” Taylor said.

“The biggest problem we’ve had over the last three seasons is that we’ve been conceding too many goals, so that’s an area we need to tackle.

“It’s a young side and we need to bring in two or three more experienced players.

“You need experienced people around the youngsters if they’re going to come through.”

United found themselves overrun by a strong Bristol side who still had an outside chance of snatching the league title from Yeovil Town if they could win by at least six clear goals.

And it didn’t take them long to get off the mark, Claire Emslie finding the bottom corner after just 12 minutes.

They doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark when Eloise Wilson caught out U’s keeper Demi Lambourne at the back post.

And just moments later a shellshocked Oxford were three down when Jodie Brett raced up the right wing and crossed for the unmarked Emslie to nod in.

Emslie turned provider in first-half stoppage time, crossing for Millie Farrow to head in the fourth.

Oxford improved defensively after the break, but they couldn’t prevent a fifth goal seven minutes from time as Farrow danced through several challenges before blasting into the top corner.
