JUSTIN Merritt believes Oxford City have a fine chance to build a run of form as they entertain Weston-Super-Mare tomorrow.

City ended their six-match winless run and pulled themselves out of the Vanarama National League South relegation zone with a shock 3-1 victory away to play-off hopefuls Poole Town last weekend.

And their general manager has urged his side to use the victory as a springboard for further positive results.

“It was good to get a win, but it’s just one win,” Merritt said.

“It’s no good putting in all that hard work to beat Poole only for us to get nothing from this one.

“But hopefully now is the time to put a bit of a run together.

“Looking at the next few games we have coming up, I believe we are capable of getting something out of all of them.”

Veteran striker Jefferson Louis made an instant impact on his debut, scoring their third goal.

The 37-year-old quickly made his influence felt and Merritt, who played alongside a young Louis at Thame United, believes his arrival has boosted the entire squad.

“Jefferson has been excellent since he came in,” he said.

“It was a fantastic debut and I’m delighted that he got a goal.

“He held the ball up, he was a handful for their defenders, he brought others into play and he looked a threat.

“The other players can feed off that a little bit and it’s a bubbly dressing room right now.”

Defender Lee Henderson returns for City after missing out last weekend, but doubts remain over Kynan Isaac and Shaun MacAuley with knee injuries.

Meanwhile, City’s youth side are through to the first round of the FA Youth Cup following a 2-1 victory at Forest Green Rovers in the third qualifying round.

Goals from Jack Tutton and Kei Chamberlain early in the second half put City 2-0 up, before Giancarlo Gabbiadini pulled one back late on.

FORMER Oxford City winger Luke Coulson has been rewarded for his fine form at Eastleigh with a call-up for the England C squad to face Estonia Under 23s.
