JEFFERSON Louis could be the answer to Oxford City’s woes in front of goal, according to general manager Justin Merritt.

The nomadic former Oxford United forward was putting the finishing touches to his move from Staines Town last night ahead of City’s Vanarama National League South trip to Poole Town tomorrow.

The 37-year-old spent two years at the Kassam Stadium, between 2002 and 2004, before embarking on a journeyman career spanning more than 30 clubs – with City the latest.

Merritt said: “He’s not as young as he used to be, but he’s still a handful and he’s a great character to have at the football club.

“He’s athletic, powerful and, most importantly, scores goals.”

Putting the ball in the net has proved particularly problematic for City lately, having netted just ten league goals all season.

But Merritt feels Louis could provide the solution.

“We’ve been creating a number of chances, but we’ve not taken them,” Merritt said.

“Sometimes you just need an alternative and hopefully Jefferson will give us that.”

Wide players Kynan Isaac and Shaun MacAuley are both hoping to shake off knee problems, but City are otherwise at full strength.
