NORTH Leigh were given a big fright before drawing 2-2 away to Bridgwater Town in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

In the end, the Millers had to settle for a draw against the side, who occupy bottom place in the Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League.

The teams must replay at North Leigh tomorrow night, with the winners set to visit Yate Town in the next round on October 29.

With Jamie Cook and Callum McNish still out injured and Elliott Osborne-Ricketts unavailable, manager John Brough had to rejig the side, but they took the lead after five minutes.

Eric Odhiambo curled a delightful centre into the the path of George Seacole who, despite being under pressure, flicked the ball into the far corner of the goal.

Five minutes later, the visitors were rocked a simple equaliser as Bridgwater striker Syd Camper who rose unopposed to head home a corner.

After another three minutes, things got even worse for North Leigh as Camper ran behind their central defenders and headed his side into the lead from eight yards.

The Millers’ Roger James saw a powerful shot saved as the hosts held on to a 2-1 half-time lead.

In the second half, the visitors began to get on top and they equalised in the 57th minute, when Aaron Woodley slid the ball across to Rogers James, who clipped it home from close range.

Sub Chris Murphy went closest to winning the game for Millers, striking the inside of a post.

Didcot Town bowed out hen beaten 1-0 by a late strike away to Bishops Cleeve.

The only goal came in the 88th minute, when the Railwaymen failed clear a dangerous cross and Bishops Cleeve captain Kirk Layton slotted the ball past keeper Leigh Bedwell.

Didcot thought they had gone behind after two minutes when a superb 25-yard strike from Cleeve’s Jack Watts was disallowed for offside.

The visitors’ best chance of the first half came when Oxford United loanee Jordan Graham put pressure on Cleeve keeper Matt Wieczorek, but the referee spotted a handball offence.

In the second half, a Cleeve corner had to be cleared off the line by Jordi Mulvany, while Watts hit the bar with a lofted cross.

Didcot’s penalty appeals when Nick Thorne appeared to be tripped, were waved away by the referee.

Then Cleeve hit that late winner to earn a tie away to Banbury United.
